It's the Hovhaness Concerto No. 1 for Orchestra on this classic recording that I really enjoy. Cowell's Symphony No. 4 is also of much interest. Enjoy

The symphony 4 of Cowell, togheder,Sinfonia 4 Ive's la nr.50 of Hovhaness, the best symfony of the composers USA,TRUTH,SUBLIME & Dolcezza, gracias,Master, thanks.Any Symphony of William Bolcolm for up? Thanks, abrazo!! Tapirman
You are very welcome. Yes, Hovhaness's Sym 50 Mount St Helens is remarkable. And I like all of the Ives symphonies. I have the Bolcom symphonies someplace, when I find them I will upload!
I wasn't aware of any new recording of Cowell's 4th Symphony just digital reincarnations of the old Mercury and ARS recordings from the 50's. Bostock and the ASO have versions of the 2nd and 7th from recent concerts available. Modern versions of the 4th and 5th would be a treat compared to the rough and ready versions that Hanson and Dixon provide. In fact new versions of some of Hanson's recordings of Hovhaness would likewise be welcome. Maybe Naxos would put them in their American Classics series - they certainly display that characteristic. I look forward to more of your offerings - right in line with my preferences. Thanks
Hi 'anon', thank you for your words. I actually should have held my tongue so to speak concerning the Cowell 4th; I do have a modern recording of it but it's not commercially or publicly available currently. I wasn't thinking! I was fortunate enough to be invited to a recording session with a lesser known new england orchestra 2 years back. I agree about the Hanson interpretations, and Naxos would be the obvious choice! -Regards
Hi! Holy Cowell! Massive Blog man, amazing! Thanks for the few already and more in the future.
