Arnold Rosner - Birthday/In Memoriam

Hello everybody. Today is Rosner's birthday. It is also the day that he passed away. Born on November 8th 1945, Rosner died at home on his 68th birthday, November 8th, 2013.

Tonight I am going to a memorial concert in his honor, hosted by his family, colleagues, and
and some of the musicians who were close to him as well.

That initial moment of shock and disbelief when I heard the news of his death is etched in my mind. I was listening to WQXR (NYC) at the time, back in May I believe, when "A Gentle Musicke" came on. With less than one minute of Opus 44 remaining on the airwaves, I decided to get my phone and call him. Before I had a chance o dial the host Jeff Spurgeon announces that the music is by the late Arnold Rosner. I recall being instantly enveloped in darkness; needless to say I was simply devastated and the rest of the day seemed unreal. To a great extent these feelings remain.

Celebrating his life is like a new beginning; I have been doing so in my own personal way for quite some time but how wonderful to be able to share
the joy and memories with many others on this most important of evenings.

In case anyone is curious about what the event "is", here's a link with simple information:

I shall post a few Rosner discs on Sunday when I can.

Good weekend everyone.

A sad day, remembering this remarkable composer.

And I had never heard of him until you introduced his music on your blog!

I wish I had time to say more often: Thank you so much for all the amazing music you share with us!

Hi Sneffels

Indeed it was a very sad yet moving day; the memorial concert was so very touching and needless to say the music was other-worldly. There were a few world premiere performances, including the last piece he had written-while deteriorating rapidly. I'm very pleased that I have been able to introduce you to Rosner's music; every new listener, by listening- indeed celebrates his life. Thanks for your warm comments.
