Leoš Janáček - Piano Music Volume 2 (plus the Concerto for Piano, Two Violins, Viola, Clarinet and Horn) - Thomas Hlawatsch

On Volume 2 we get more of Janacek's beautiful and simply enchanting piano music; in fact I much prefer this volume, as "In The Mist", "Three Moravian Dances" and "Variations for Zdenka" are among my favorite of his piano works. The two miniatures on the disc are really charming also. This is all around a more lively, colorful, and intriguing experience imo, while the "Along an Overgrown Path" Books are much more contemplative, quiet works full of varying moods-they are great works however and I love them as well.

And then the disc closes with Janacek's "Concerto for Piano, Two Horns, Viola, Clarinet and Horn" from 1925. Oh how I love this piece; it's a wonderful "weirdo" of an Opus (**the programme speaks of people, I assume Janacek-blocking the entrance to a hedge-hog's house in a linden tree..making the hedge-hog "beside itself with anger!". -Can you say nutcase? Ha..in the most glorious way of course!!) there's humor, odd little dances, a certain skittering nervousness here and there....one never knows what is around the auditory corner! That Janacek penned music like this in 1925 is only that much more impressive. Enjoy!

Thank you so very much, Especially for your intro,I would like to read more!My previously mentioned O M S,gives written words an anchoring effect, that is so needed with so much needed in times of abundance.Thank you so much for the lush Hovhannes although I just listened to it "by the way".All the best from Jerusalem.

Hey blue, you are as always, quite welcome friend. I do like very much to write about the music I'm posting when time allows, or say if I'm not too exhausted to write in a coherent fashion. Trust me I could easily get carried away and write a couple pages worth however I don't know if many people would bother to stop and read it, sadly everyone is rushing in this lifetime-even though usually it's not by choice. I will say that, when I'm online reading about music, or discovering new music, I do give it my sole attention. That just my way, it's just soo important to me! Kind regards, -Tz

Oh yes, happy you enjoyed that Hovhaness disc, it's somewhat uncommon and an interesting survey. Hovhaness still is my favorite composer; it's surprising to me that I haven't gone on a Hovhaness-posting-rampage yet. I thought many a times of posting his entire catalog over a couple of days, but then it's less exciting for visitors I imagine to not have variety daily. I wish I could post some of the non-commercial recordings I have too, but I find that wouldn't be that ethical, as I own such recordings due to certain friendships, including my dear friend the late Rosner.
