Bohuslav Martinů - Sinfonietta Giocosa - Toccata e Due Canzoni - Sinfonietta La Jolla

One of my desert-island-Martinů-discs, this Chandos disc from 1990 is pure joy. The Sinfoniettas are sunny, lyrical, and neoclassical in temperament. The Sinfonietta Giocosa is one of my favorite works. It's pretty remarkable too that that the Sinfonietta Giocosa ("Jolly" or "Playful" Little Symphony) was composed largely on trains while he and his wife were fleeing the Nazi occupation of France. It really is jolly, though, and is guaranteed to make the listener's ears and mind excessively happy; it does that for me anyhow!! The Sinfonietta La Jolla is also a charming work, again in Martinu's oft neoclassical style. Toccata e Due Canzoni is opulently melodic and beautiful as well. The first movement is one of the best examples of "perpetual motion" that you're ever likely to hear. Enjoy!

Many thanks again for lesser-known Martinu (at least to me). And thank you so much also for changing the character type color to White: much, much easier to read!

I would just like to thank you for introducing me to some 20th C music I would never have heard otherwise.

Thank you so much

me hubiera gustado sentir alguna
Bueno,me he puesto sentimental
jajaja!!
Un saludo.

Hey Joan you are quite welcome, this Martinu disc is a MUST hear in my opinion! And yes changing the text to white is much better for visitors...I was going with what was "pretty" initially ;)

Greets Gordon and thanks for commenting, it's very much appreciated! And there's so much great music out there; I'm happy I can help and share it with good people :) Regards, Tz

Hi tba (figured I'd shorten your alias now that I "know" you ;) you are welcome as always. -Are you a fan of any Israeli composers? One of my favorites who has barely been recorded (so frustrating!!) is Julius Chajes. His "Israeli Melodies" for Strings is quite beautiful, and they are all (6 mvts) based on Israeli folk songs. Also a big fan of Yehezkel Braun, another composer whose music needs more recordings. There's many more but I won't list em all here ;)

queridos Beethoven,J.S.Bach,Mozart & Company solo
siempre,a Dios gracias!!!

Saludos!

Hi!

I would love to see more Israeli music here since I like their folk melodies.

Are you planning to share some here?

Hey Piterets

Yes, I have quite a bit of Israeli music and composers. Pretty near and dear to my heart. I take it you have listened to the "For Strings Only" disc I just posted yesterday? I will be adding more when I can (and when I find where I put most of the stuff!) Cheers
